Synopsis
"A Chiara" is about the Guerrasio family and their friends gathering to celebrate Claudio and Carmela’s eldest daughter’s eighteenth birthday. There is a playful rivalry between the birthday girl and her 15-year-old sister Chiara as they compete on the dance floor. It’s a joyful occasion and the close-knit family is in high spirits. But everything changes the next day when the father disappears. Chiara, who does not believe the explanation given, begins to investigate what has happened. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she is forced to choose what kind of future she wants for herself.
Production Facts
This is Jonas Carpignano’s fourth film in Cannes. In 2017, his "A Ciambra" won the Label Europa Cinemas in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (Directors’ Fortnight). In 2015, his "Mediterranea" was nominated in Critics’ Week and for a Golden Camera. In 2014, the short film A Ciambra won the Discovery Award.
