Synopsis

In Christmas 1969, the Norwegian government announced news that would change Norway forever. It was then that Norway entered its oil age and began an unparalleled economic adventure.

In the new epic film "The Burning Sea", the Norwegian oil adventure takes a dramatic turn. An oil platform suddenly capsizes in the Ormen Långe oil field. Scientists desperately try to find a solution to the seemingly inexplicable event. The entire country holds its breath as it turns out that the accident is only the beginning of something much more serious. A human drama of life and death unfolds among the thousands of oil workers who are suddenly trapped on oil rigs across the North Sea. The largest rescue operation in Norway’s history becomes a reality.

Amidst this chaos, Sofia (Kristine Kujath Thorp) finds herself. She is a young entrepreneur working with highly advanced underwater robots. Together with her colleague Arthur (Rolf Kristian Larsen), she risks everything in a desperate race against time when it turns out that Sofia's boyfriend is trapped on a destroyed platform deep beneath the rolling surface of the sea.
