Synopsis
"Beautiful Beings" is about Addi, who is raised by a clairvoyant mother. He decides to adopt a misfit bullying victim. Left on their own, the boys experience aggression and violence, but also learn about loyalty and love. As their behavior escalates into increasingly life-threatening situations, Addi begins to have a series of dreamlike visions. Can his newfound intuition lead him and his friends down a better path, or will it inevitably lead to even more violence?
Production Facts
"Beautiful Beings" by the Icelandic director Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson has been selected for the Berlin Film Festival, where it competes in the Panorama section. He gained his breakthrough with the feature film "Heartstone", which won around 50 awards at festivals worldwide, including the Gothenburg Film Festival and the European Film Festival. It was shown in Toronto and won the Queer Lion in Venice, as well as nine Icelandic Guldbaggar (Edda Awards). He both wrote and directed "Beautiful Beings".
In the leading roles, we see Birgir Dagur Bjarkason, Àskell Einar Pálmason, Viktor Benony Benediktsson, and Snorri Rafn Frimannsson.
"Beautiful Beings" is produced by Anton Máni Svansson, Join Motion Pictures, in co-production with Film i Väst, Hobab Nima Yousefi, Motor Productions, Bastide Films, and Negativ with support from the Icelandic Film Centre, Iceland’s Ministry of Industries and Innovation, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service RÚV, Sena, the Danish Film Institute, DR, Scanbox, the Swedish Film Institute, the Netherlands Film Fund, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, the Czech Film Fund, the Nordic Film & TV Fund, and Eurimages.
The film is partially post-produced in Gothenburg by Haymaker.
