Synopsis

A sign from God leads two Norwegian sisters to purchase an apartment in the Swedish town of Gullspång. When they meet the apartment owner at the real estate office, she is the spitting image of their deceased older sister, who died by suicide 30 years earlier. What begins as a miraculous family reunion quickly unfolds into a gripping drama about lies, secrets, and the power of faith.

Production Facts

Maria Fredriksson’s documentary "Miraklet i Gullspång" had its world premiere in competition at the prestigious Tribeca Festival in New York. The film marks Maria Fredriksson’s feature-length debut and premiered in the Documentary Competition section at the Tribeca Festival. It is produced by Ina Holmqvist, Ballad Film, in co-production with Film i Väst.

Maria Fredriksson is director, producer, and script writer. She completed her Master of Fine Arts at the Stockholm University of the Arts in 2012 and has since directed several short documentaries. Her films have screened at international festivals such as Hot Docs, Visions du Réel, and Palm Springs. Maria Fredriksson is also one of the founders of the all-female production company Ballad Film.
