Handling
"Families Like Ours" begins in the middle of the Danish summer, where life is going on as usual. But like a bolt from the blue, everything is torn apart. The rising water levels can no longer be ignored, and the government decides that all of Denmark must be evacuated.
Suddenly, all property becomes worthless, houses and institutions are abandoned, while families, friends, and lovers are torn apart. Those who can afford it travel to wealthy countries, while the less fortunate depend on state support and must move wherever there is space. Chaos, destruction, and helplessness strike the Danish people.
But despite the farewell to their homeland, the world keeps spinning. In many places, love blossoms, people reconcile, and the hope of being reunited continues to live on. "Families Like Ours" is a grand and intimate family drama about the farewell from everything we know, but also about people's indomitable will to survive, hope, and love.
