Synopsis
"A Prayer for the Dying" is set in 1870 in Friendship, Wisconsin, a small town where Scandinavian settlers are still suffering the aftermath of the Civil War. When they are faced with a new and even deadlier threat, a man is forced to make a horrific choice: save his young family or defend the community that gave him a second chance in life.

Dara Van Dusen is a writer and director from New York, now residing in Oslo. "A Prayer for the Dying" is based on the novel of the same name by Stewart O’Nan. Her short film "Significant Others" competed in Cannes Official Selection. Her short film "The Blind Man" – an adaptation of Bertholt Brecht’s novella – was nominated for Best Nordic Short at Nordic Panorama.
"A Prayer for the Dying" is produced by Dyveke Bjørkly Graver and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar of Eye Eye Pictures, in co-production with Mimmi Spång of Garagefilm International, Film i Väst, Tristan Goligher of The Bureau, Vicky Miha of Asterisk*, Fenia Cossovitsa of Blonde Audiovisual Productions, Zahra Waldeck of Banaccas Film, and John Baker. It is supported by Creative Europe, the Norwegian Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute, the UK Global Screen Fund, and the Greek Film Center.
Parts of the post-production takes place in Region Västra Götaland.
