Synopsis
"Ann Lee" is an epic fable about Ann Lee, one of the founders of the American Shaker movement. She was depicted by her followers as the female Christ and played a key role in building one of the largest utopian communities in U.S. history. Lee is one of the rare female religious leaders of the 18th century, and her followers worshipped her through expressive song and dance.
Production Facts
Amanda Seyfried, best known for her role in "Mamma Mia", stars in the film "Ann Lee", shot in Gothenburg. Mona Fastvold directs and also wrote the screenplay. Swedish co-producer is Daniel Lägersten of Göta Film, in co-production with Film i Väst. Several scenes were filmed aboard the East Indiaman Götheborg at Eriksberg.
Other cast members include Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Chris Abbott, Tim Blake Nelson, Stacy Martin, Matthew Beard, Scott Handy, Viola Prettejohn, and David Cale. Also worth mentioning are the West Swedish actors Matti Boustedt, James Hogg, Melker Appel, and David Fjällbrant, cast by Färdmars Film.
