Synopsis

The film is set in the 1860s in the Northwestern United States. We follow Isabel, a Native American woman who has been educated at a Christian missionary school, and thus struggles with the loss of her cultural heritage. She begins her work as a governess for the daughters of a British widower. As the arranged marriage of the eldest daughter approaches, tensions in the household escalate, and a mysterious connection between the women and the surrounding forest is revealed — a bond that the girls' father is desperate to dissolve.
