Synopsis

"Planen" is a true story about a real place. It’s the story of upheaval and transformation – seen through the bespectacled eyes of a fifteen-year-old boy.

Based on Morten Pape’s autofictive bestseller, the film centers on the geeky 15-year-old Morten who grows up in a socially disadvantaged neighborhood called Urbanplanen, also known as “Planen”, in the Amager district of Copenhagen in 2001.

Morten’s life is turned upside down when his parents get divorced. His mother falls into a depression and his dad suddenly prefers to spend his time with his new girlfriend and her kids. But after befriending his new classmate Behrouz, Morten finds community among the immigrant boys in Urbanplanen.

But positioning oneself with a foot in both camps across a stark cultural divide has a cost. In the wake of September 11th, conflict erupts in Planen. This has consequences for Morten’s friendship with Behrouz, and ultimately forces him to take a stand and find his own place in life.
