During the Berlin Film Festival, Film i Väst arranged a seminar on the future of film. The seminar was based on the third study from Film i Väst Analysis’ research project Public Film Funding at a Crossroads: The Answers: Future Film and Audiovisual Policies – Revolution, Reforms or Just Let it Be.
In a faux trial, Dr. Angus Finney challenged Tomas Eskilsson on the conclusions of the third report, The Answers. Angus Finney is a Fellow at Cambridge University, an executive producer, an author, and an international industry expert. Tomas Eskilsson is the head of Film i Väst Analysis.
The topics of this faux trial concerned what the European film sector needs to reflect on, revise, and act upon to ensure that tomorrow’s support mechanisms remain relevant. Additional insights came from six star witnesses from the industry, who shared best practices and strategies for the next decade of film and audiovisual policy:
- Joanna Szymanska, Shipsboy
- Anna Croneman, Swedish Film Institute
- Nathalie Bremond, Nouvelle-Aquitaine
- Jonas Dornbach, Komplizen Film
- Katrien Maes, Flanders Audiovisual Fund
- Louise Vesth, Zentropa Denmark
A special brochure introducing and summarizing the final report The Answers was distributed to seminar visitors, and you can download it here.
The full report, The Answers: Future Film and Audiovisual Policies – Revolution, Reforms or Just Let it Be, will be published in March 2025.
