Renowned artist and filmmaker Niki Lindroth von Bahr returns with a new stop-motion animated short film, "The End", which will have its world premiere at Cannes in May, competing in the Short Films Competition.
"The End" is a story about death, set in the sprawling world of a major airport. A plane has lost contact with the control tower, where the staff are too absorbed in a reality show to notice. A barista at an expensive smoothie bar loses their mind, while a mysterious figure moves quietly in the periphery — soon ready to collect us all.
"The End" is produced by Malade AB and the film brings together an exceptional international voice cast featuring some of the most acclaimed actors in Scandinavia and Europe. The voice cast includes: Noomi Rapace, Tuva Novotny, Alexander Skarsgård, Arja Saijonmaa, Denis Lavant, Kevin Rowland, Carl Johan De Geer, Marianne Lindberg De Geer, Johannes Kuhnke, and Anna Mouglalis, among others.
Last autumn, Film i Väst visited Niki Lindroth von Bahr and Mikael Lindbom, CEO of Dockhus Animation, at their studio in Trollhättan, where parts of the film were animated. On Film i Väst’s Instagram, you can explore behind-the-scenes images from the production in Trollhättan, as well as interviews with Niki, in which she discusses the work behind the film’s puppets.
