Seminar at the Cannes Film Festival

Join us on May 18, 11.30-12.30 at Marché du Film, Main Stage (Riviera), for an engaging discussion on the future of public film agencies and the audience.

As audience habits shift, how should public film agencies respond? This session explores new expectations, bold strategies, and what it will take to stay relevant in the future of cinema.

The session will be hosted by Tomas Eskilsson and Sigrid Bersmann from Film i Väst, and will feature the following industry experts, each sharing their perspective on the topic.

  • Carlo Cresto-Dina, Producer, Tempesta

  • Malene Blenkov, Head of Fiction, Danish Film Institute

  • Vicki Brown, Senior executive for sales and distribution for the BFI National Lottery Filmmaking Fund, British Film Institute

During the session, the report The Audience Isn’t Waiting – Are We Ready to Change? will be released. This new report explores how public film agencies and the wider European film industry can rethink their relationship with audiences. Through interviews with key industry voices from across Europe, the report invites reflection on shared responsibility, evolving strategies, and how we can better connect with audiences in a changing landscape.

A partner to the report is The Film Agency, who have contributed a chapter on the streaming landscape to help us understand that world in relation to our own.

Please note that accreditation is required to access the event.
