In March, the two reference groups for the upcoming Film i Väst Analysis report came together in Gothenburg, "oldies but goldies" and the "next generation".
The fourth and final report in the Public Film Funding at a Crossroads series is underway. Where the previous reports mapped the challenges and formulated the recommendations, this one goes further into the question of why and how. How does European film and audiovisual policy move from defence to offence? How do public funders stay relevant in a sector that is changing faster than policy can follow? Why is it so crucial that European films are seen as a central expression by and for the continent’s citizens? And why is public film funding still central?
The conversations in Gothenburg reminded us why this work matters and that the sector still has the will to change.
