Virtual Production

At Studio Fares in Trollhättan, you’ll find Europe’s largest projector-based Virtual Production wall – 24 by 8 meters. Using high-brightness projectors, moving backgrounds are projected onto the specially painted wall. The classic car chase along winding roads. The ocean view with an eternal sunset. The view from the second floor of the studio set. It opens up new possibilities for all kinds of filmmaking.

New possibilities with Virtual Production

Combining Set Construction and VP Wall
Projecting background images during filming is nothing new in itself. However, the Virtual Production solution chosen for Studio Fares opens up new possibilities for productions:

  • The wall is very large: 24 meters wide and 8 meters high. This means you can either project a very large background image onto the wall or simply divide the wall into different segments where two or more different environments are projected.

  • It is possible to film very close to the wall, which is not possible with LED screens. This is made possible by using top-quality projectors.

  • The studio is spacious, 1,100 square meters with a ceiling height of ten meters. The wall runs along one of the long sides. This leaves plenty of room for building traditional studio sets—TV or three-story houses, airplane interiors, office environments, etc.

  • The combination of physical set construction and projections on different parts of the wall allows for smart pre-production planning to shoot several different scenes in various environments in a single day of filming.

Climate-Smart and Resource-Efficient

  • Choosing a projector-based projection system means significantly lower electricity costs compared to an LED-based solution (which also requires dedicated servers).

  • Bringing together multiple scenes in a single location is also climate-smart.

  • It reduces travel—and that’s where the film industry’s largest climate impact lies.

  • Compared to shooting “on location,” you also save on costs for permits, parking, and other logistics.

  • It cuts expenses and saves time. A star actor can spend less time on set—but use it more effectively.

  • Last but not least: you gain full control over the seasons, weather, and the sun’s rise and set. How many hours have you spent on set waiting for that one cloud to move? Here, you can reshoot the sunset scene as many times as you like. Film the winter scene in the morning; the summer scene after lunch.
