Synopsis
On November 26, 1942, hundreds of Norwegian Jews were taken in the middle of the night by the police and transported to the quay in Oslo. Unaware and terrified, women, children, the sick, and the elderly are forced aboard the German cargo ship waiting. The men had been interned a month earlier at the Berg prison camp and arrived in cattle cars by train to the quay. We can only imagine the desperation, chaos, and anxiety that prevailed that morning.
For a brief moment, husband and wife, father and daughter, grandparents and grandchildren meet – before they are brutally torn apart and taken below deck on the cargo ship Donau, which leaves the quay with 532 Norwegian Jews on board; 302 men, 188 women, and 42 children. The destination was Germany, and the final stop was Auschwitz.
Amid this chaos, the Braude family is also introduced. A typical Norwegian working-class family who had lived their lives in safety in the Grünerløkka district of Oslo. Their fate was sealed by the fact that they were Jewish. "Betrayed" is an epic feature film about one of the most dramatic chapters in Norwegian history.
