When the submission deadline for International Feature Film has now closed, it is clear that as many as six of Film i Väst’s co-productions are included! The films have either had shooting days or post-production in the Västra Götaland region.
The Oscars, or the Academy Awards, is the most prestigious film awards ceremony in the world, highlighting the best achievements in the film industry over the past year – from acting and directing to costume design, music, special effects, and international films. The 98th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles.
What an amazing achievement – congratulations to everyone involved! The fact that our co-productions are represented in six national Oscar submissions is proof that their stories truly resonate and inspire. It reflects our vision that Film i Väst aims to be the obvious choice for world-class film production and to deliver unforgettable stories to the audience, while also putting Västra Götaland on the map as a filming region.

Rules & Eligibility
To be eligible for submission to the 2026 Academy Awards, films must have had their theatrical premiere in the country of origin between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, and meet the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) release requirements.
Each year, the Swedish Oscar Committee selects Sweden’s candidate for Best International Feature Film. Among this year’s three nominated productions competing to become Sweden’s entry was also "Israel Palestine on Swedish Television 1958-1989" by Göran Hugo Olsson, also co-produced with Film i Väst. The third contender was "The Dance Club" by Lisa Langseth.
What happens next?
In the next stage, an AMPAS committee will review all submitted films and narrow them down to a shortlist – usually around 15 films, which will be announced on December 16, 2025. From these 15, the Oscar jury will then select the 5 final nominees competing for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards in March 2026.
