At the end of June, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival begins, one of the world’s leading festivals for animated film. Linda Hambäck’s new feature film “Dante” has been selected for Annecy Presents, a section that highlights internationally produced feature films with a broad range. Anna Mantzaris’s short film “Please” will be screened in the main competition at the festival; both films are co-produced with Film i Väst.
The film follows the crossing paths of the rat Dante (Stellan Skarsgård), and the bank clerk Helge (David Dencik). When Helge is suddenly forced to flee, he ends up at the city’s landfill where Dante lives. The film is a detective story in which the quest to find the real culprit—so that Helge can prove his innocence—leads through newfound friendship, stolen millions, and dynamite.
“Dante” is directed by Linda Hambäck, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jessika Jankert, freely adapted from Frida Nilsson’s book "Me and Dante at the Dump". "Dante" is produced by LEE Film in co-production with Nørlum, Mikrofilm and Film i Väst. Parts of the film is animated in Dockhus Animation in Trollhättan.

"Please" is a dark comedy about humankind’s desire to love and to be loved. An animated short centred around neediness, intimacy and romance. Told through a series of loosely connected, tender and absurd scenes, the film follows people who are searching for closeness and acceptance. In a world that preaches self-control, the film explores the sides we try to hide, such as feeling needy and pathetic. The stories overlap and reappear, gradually forming a larger portrait of collective longing.
‘Please’ is directed and written by Anna Mantzaris. Produced by APPARAT Filmproduktion AB in co-production with Film i Väst, Pictanovo, Arte, SVT, Passion Paris, Mikrofilm and Kuli Film.
