Palme d’Or–nominated ‘Gentle Monster’ & ‘Fjord’ post-produced in Västra Götaland

2026-05-07

On May 13, the Cannes Film Festival begins, where two of Film i Väst’s co-productions, “Fjord” and “Gentle Monster,” are competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or. Both films were post-produced in Västra Götaland, where Filmgate VFX worked on “Fjord,” and Auditory and Tint on “Gentle Monster.”

At the end of April, we met Marie Kreutzer, director and screenwriter of “Gentle Monster,” who, together with Gustaf Berger from Auditory, was working on the film’s sound mix at Tint’s facilities in Gothenburg.

During our visit, we interviewed Marie Kreutzer about her work in Gothenburg, what it feels like to be nominated for a Palme d’Or, and what she is most looking forward to in Cannes. The interview can be seen on Film i Väst’s Instagram.

The majority of “Gentle Monster” has been post-produced in Västra Götaland. The region is home to internationally recognized post-production companies, and in 2025, a total of 3,627 days of post-production were carried out in Västra Götaland.

Synopsis

Lucy loves Philip and, after his burnout, moved to the countryside with him and their son, even though this meant professional constraints for her. Elsa, on the other hand, lives for her job as a special investigator with the police, but is kept busy by the responsibility for her demented father. Both build their lives around men whose dark sides they'd rather not see. A story about Lucy and Elsa, about trust and deception, about love and violence.
