On November 7, the application opens for Swedish production rebates, for the production of audiovisual works, (feature films, documentary films, drama series or documentary series). It is permanent support from 2022 and consists of a total of SEK 100 million per year. The production rebate can be combined with a co-production investment from Film i Väst.

– Finally Sweden has introduced the same kind of production incentive system as the rest of Europe. We have together with the rest of the Swedish film industry been fighting for this for some years. 100 million Swedish kronor, round about 9.2 million Euro, is the same amount as Film i Väst invests every year, but the new rebate system money can attract both international and big Swedish productions. We are prepared to take care of them in our region, Region Västra Götaland, says Mikael Fellenius, CEO of Film i Väst.

Film i Väst has co-produced more than 1300 productions since its start 30 years ago. Among those, many have been awarded at the Oscars, the Golden Palm and European Film Awards. Lars von Trier, Susanne Bier, Björn Runge, Ella Lemhagen, Ruben Östlund, Sanna Lenken, Joachim Trier, Isabella Eklöf, Thomas Vinterberg, Charlotte Sieling, Ali Abassi, Tarik Saleh, Eskil Vogt and Valdimar Jóhannsson are among the directors who have co-worked with Film i Väst.

Region Västra Götaland is well prepared for filming and post production:

  • Studio Fares in Trollhättan is the second largest sound-stage in Scandinavia with an area of 1.100 sq m (approx 11.800 sq ft). The facilities include a stage workshop, storage and an additional gated parking area. Well equipped production offices as well as make up and dressing rooms are also available on site.
  • A large Virtual Production wall, 24×8 meter, will be up and running in the beginning of 2023.
  • The combined mix- and grading studio, Mix-studion, is in an adjacent building.

Companies co-producing with Film i Väst have access to the database www.filmivast.se (in Swedish). Here you find lists of 700 film workers, 300 actors, 2000 extras, 300 suppliers all in the Region Västra Götaland plus a lot of interesting locations.
