Film i Väst, Scandinavia’s leading regional film fund, is one of the busiest production hubs in Europe during the pandemic. The most recent addition to the production slate is TUESDAY CLUB, a comedy starring Peter Stormare, one of the busiest Scandinavian actors (Prison Break, American Gods, Get Shorty, John Wick: Chapter 2, Minority Report, Armageddon, The Big Lebowski, Fargo), alongside Marie Richardson, one of Sweden’s most beloved actresses who’s worked extensively in film, television and on stage, with directors such as Ingmar Bergman, Stanley Kubrick and Bille August.
TUESDAY CLUB is directed by Annika Appelin, from a script by Anna Fredriksson, based on her own best-selling novel. The film will shoot in and around Gothenburg, in western Sweden.
– I’m very happy and proud to be a part of bringing TUESDAY CLUB to the screen. It’s a beautiful screenplay, with unique characters. I also love the fact that the book and the screenplay are written by a woman, the film is directed by a woman, and the main characters are women, which makes this a rare opportunity. It’ll be a fantastic journey, and I cancelled everything else to get on board!, says Peter Stormare.
Karin and Sten are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary with a huge bash. While their friends toast to their happiness, Karin discovers that Sten has been unfaithful. After having spent her life supporting her husband and their daughter, Karin has to re-evaluate her choices. At a cooking class that her friends talk her into, she meets Henrik, a charismatic chef, and in the hot kitchen she discovers that it’s never to late to follow your dreams.
– I want to create a feel good film, sprinkled with deeper questions, embracing human strength and weakness through excellent actors in a sweet and sour mix, encouraging the audience to dream bigger, says director Annika Appelin of her debut feature.
TUESDAY CLUB is produced by Jessica Ask and Åsa Karlsson for Anagram Sweden, and co-produced by Film i Väst, SF Studios and TV4/C More with support from the Swedish Film Institute. TUESDAY CLUB will open in Sweden in 2022.
