Film i Väst is a regional film fund located on the Swedish west coast in Västra Götaland. Its main headquarters are situated 70 km from Gothenburg in Trollhättan, the country’s leading film city, affectionally referred to by locals as Trollywood.
Since its inception, Film i Väst has co-produced more than 1 000 feature films, TV dramas, shorts and documentaries, establishing Västra Götaland as the most prominent film region in Sweden and the home to many film companies.
Film i Väst is a company wholly owned by Västra Götalandsregionen, the Regional Authority of Västra Götaland. The Regional Authority’s intention is that the work of Film i Väst will make a substantial contribution to establishing Västra Götaland as the foremost film production region in northern Europe.
In order to be eligible for financing from Film i Väst some part of a film’s production must be carried out in the region of west Sweden, either in the form of shooting days or post production.
Film i Väst is an equity investor, and can invest in up to a maximum of 100% of the production costs allocated to the region.
Next to the Swedish Film Institute, Film i Väst is the most significant source of funding for films in Sweden and co-produces more international productions than any entity in Scandinavia.
